"Shamoononon drives like a farmer" (shamoononon)

I have a 2009 Ford Escape. Today the little wrench light went on and it suddenly lost power. Wasn’t too bad and gained power again. Now the light only comes on sometimes but when it does there is a sudden loss of power momentarily. The yellow engine light is on now too. Googled and it looks like the throttle body. Reading this it seems it should still be covered by warrenty, right? Any suggestions how to approach Ford about it and not have to pay for diagnosis/etc? Eh, I’m a software engineer, not really a car person other than being interested in learning. Thanks! Linked is the edmunds article about it.

The article says those cars affected got a letter by mail. Since the article is old I’m sure you could see if your car was one of those affected by checking the VIN

You don’t have to pay a cent for warranty work, diag fee or otherwise, and if the dealership tries to sell you some bs call them on it. I don’t know if this is how every place operates but with our family’s Mazda they ‘charged’ the diagnostic fee on the work order and then waived it once they found the issue was covered under warranty (presumably so they’d still get paid for their work if we declined). If it’s a well-known issue it should be a relatively painless process, just call and make an appointment, but confirm with them the issue actually is covered under warranty first.

I did get a recall notice to come in and have the software updated (which I did), it doesn’t look like having the hardware update was part of the re-call, looks like instead the feds forced them into upping their warrenty.

Federal emission warranty is 8 years or 80k miles and check engine lights only come on for emission issues so you should be covered

If they diagnose it, and it is the throttle body, then you’re covered by the extended warranty on that component if your vehicle is eligible. If the throttle body has already been replaced with the updated throttle body previously there is no longer coverage.
However, if the diagnosis shows this is not the problem, you’ll have to pay at least for their diagnosis.
Also, they probably will not replace the throttle body right off. The used to have to recalibrate it, and if the problem persists then they replace it.

It wasn’t actually a recall. But a customer satisfaction program.
